Roads & the Meridona Freeway

Meridona's highway system has evolved from crude dirt paths that connected the early settlements on the island to the highly maintained freeway that serves the island today. The majority of roads were paved beginning in the 1950's, though some less-traveled roads remain gravel and are used only by local traffic. Construction and upkeep of the roads and freeways is overseen by the Meridona Road Transportation Network, or MRTN (often referred to as Martin by locals).

With crews unable to keep up with the rising amount of traffic on Meridona's dated roads, MRTN began construction on the Meridona Freeway in 1963. Built 4 lanes wide for the entire stretch to account for the growing population, the freeway connects the major metropolitan regions of the island. The freeway was completed in 1985 and continues to provide Meridonan drivers with a safe and stress-free commute.
