Illanta is a former fishing village on Summerling Island. It was the center of a thriving fishing industry in the Bay of Gulls region until overfishing lead to the town being abandoned in the 1950's. In 1972, American environmentalist Clyde Albaugh purchased the town along with several other ghost towns in the region. Albaugh spent over 20 years and millions of dollars making improvements to the village, highlighted by the construction of the luxurious eco-tourism resort Arbodomo in 1990.
